Radon Awareness Week:

National- and State-Level Radon Risk Reduction Initiatives

A CDC Environmental Health Nexus Webinar

Wednesday, January 25, 2023
1:00pm - 2:00pm Eastern Time

This Environmental Health (EH) Nexus webinar hosted during CDC’s Radon Awareness Week (January 23-27), features two speakers representing national and state-level radon risk reduction initiatives.

Radon is the leading environmental cause of cancer and the second leading cause of lung cancer overall in the United States. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that radon causes 21,000 lung cancer deaths per year. Radon is a radioactive gas naturally produced in the outdoor environment at very low levels. However, radon can build up in the air inside buildings and homes if it gets trapped inside. Breathing in these increased levels of radon over time can cause lung cancer. In recent decades, as smoking rates have declined, and environmental health concerns gain traction, national and state policies and initiatives have evolved to reduce the public health impact of radon.

Visit CDC's webpage for more information about this webinar.

Hyatt Regency Bellevue on Seattle's Eastside
Bellevue, Washington

October 24-26, 2022

Growing our voice, saving lives celebrates advocacy. AARST and others work tirelessly to give voice to radon risk. By layering information, activities, and presentations into the agenda, attendees will return home with a clearer understanding of our greater goal in the industry: to better understand what advocacy means, the path organizations take to disseminate information, and to protect fellow citizens by making policy changes in how buildings are built, tested, and mitigated, to ultimately save lives.
